The Hakodate Morning Market is usually open from 5 am (from 6am during winter) to noon. Hakodate Morning market is famous for its fresh seafood such as crabs (kani), salmon eggs (ikura) and sea urchin (uni), as well as fresh produce such as melons. Many restaurants can also be found in the market area, offering fresh seafood breakfasts, such as uni-ikura domburi.

Fort Goryokaku was used for military purposes to defend Hakodate previously. It was turned into public park in 1910 and became one of best spots for cherry blossoms in May.

Mount Hakodate is a 334 meter high, wooded mountain near central Hakodate. On clear days and nights, the views from the mountain are spectacular and also considered as one of Japan most beautiful night scenery.

Facilities at the summit, which is accessible by ropeway, bus or car, include observation platforms (free of charge), souvenir shops, a cafe and a cafeteria style restaurant.
